How Nani reads files
You drop in
Nani
A bank or card download (CSV, QFX, OFX, QBO)
Imports the transactions into the right account, matches transfers between your accounts, and categorizes what it can.
A statement PDF
Checks the bank's opening and closing balances against the download for the same month.
A payroll report (CSV)
Books each pay run.
An invoice you sent
Adds it to Who owes you.
A bill or receipt
Keeps it and attaches it to the card or bank charge it paid for.
A W-9
Marks that contractor's W-9 on file.
A tax form or letter
Files it under its tax year.
A lease, insurance policy or loan paperwork
Files it with the year and the other party.
Scanned PDFs and photos are read by your computer's own text recognition. This document text recognition runs on your computer; connecting a hosted AI is a separate choice that can send tool data to its provider. (On Windows, photos can be read; scanned PDFs can't.)
Name downloads with the account's last four digits, like Checking-4321.csv. Once you've told Nani which account that is, later files with those digits file themselves.
Drop the PDF statement in with the download for the same month. It finds its import and verifies the balances.
Receipts can arrive before the card statement. They attach automatically once the charge comes in.
The same file dropped twice is noticed and the extra copy removed.
